How the regional political classification is calculated
The compass uses the original NationStates Dossier Explorer calculations by Thenium / V24-bit. Its 60 ideology definitions, signature requirements, weighted distances, supporting preferences and historical reconstruction are unchanged.
The region’s census scores and regional percentile ranks are passed to Dossier Explorer in region mode. Regional census averages are not the arithmetic mean of the plotted nation coordinates: the classifier is nonlinear. Regional inputs do not supply every nation-level detail, such as production sectors, government spending or the official government category, so the original fallback rules apply.
The economic axis runs from state-oriented left to market-oriented right. Negative authority coordinates are authoritarian (top); positive coordinates are libertarian (bottom). Social progressiveness is the mean of Civil Rights and Political Freedom, bounded to 0–100.
History uses the region’s recorded census scores grouped by UTC month, carrying earlier available values forward. It reflects the region’s membership at the time, not the past of today’s roster. Percentile histories and some supporting inputs are unavailable; historical ideologies are estimates, not recorded official labels. Months without the three core census inputs are omitted.
Distribution charts use every nation in the latest completed Economy daily-dump snapshot, including nations without a website account. Each nation counts once, without population or delegate weighting. Every percentage uses the full snapshot nation count; missing data remain in an Unknown / awaiting data group. Percentages are rounded independently.
Supplementary nation census inputs refresh in small background batches, normally daily. Inputs older than 48 hours are excluded from ideology totals at the time of calculation. The page displays coverage and timestamps; visits never start bulk API requests. Official category and freedom labels are preserved exactly as supplied by the daily dump, rather than inferred from numeric thresholds.
Data source and limitations: NationStates API documentation. Different panels can have different capture times. The timeline does not reconstruct historical bar or pie charts.
